Are you struggling to pay energy bills? Has the recent spike in energy bills left you stumbling to get the bills paid on time? We know this can be a very difficult time for everyone. That’s why we have compiled 5 of the best ways to save money on your electricity bill.
1) Hang clothes on washing lines or clothes airer.
Tumble dryers can account for up to 5% of an average household’s electricity bill a year. Drying clothes on a clothes airer or on a washing line can reduce your bills and help protect your clothes. In the winter you should also consider drying your clothes on your radiators.
2) Install water-saving shower heads.
Implementing water-saving shower heads can make a big difference in your utility bills. Not only can it save you from using up to 330Kwh to heat the water it can make a big difference on your water bill too. Well-manufactured water-saving shower heads can reduce water consumption by up to 60%. They are also well known for increasing your water pressure in the shower which is an added bonus!
3) Wash clothes on a colder cycle.
Switching your wash cycles to 20⁰ or 30⁰ rather 40⁰ or above than saves you approximately 66% of the energy that is used. This can make a big difference annually. Washing at these temperatures is effective at washing and removing stains and is actually better for the clothes.
4) Switching to energy-saving LED bulbs
Making the switch to energy-saving LED bulbs instead of the traditional halogen bulbs or older fluorescent energy saving bulbs will help you save on your electricity bill. They give off light straight away and do not need to heat up like other bulbs. On average, a typical halogen bulb costs £8.42 a year to run. However, an LED bulb will cost £1.71 to run annually which is a big saving. Energy-saving LED bulbs also have a life expectancy of up to 10x that of a standard halogen bulb. LED bulbs can also be much brighter than the standard halogen bulbs. This means that you may not need to use as much lights to light an area which will also save you money.
