Did you know that over a quarter of heat is lost through the roof?

What is Roof Insulation?

Roof  Insulation works by trapping the warm air inside your home as it acts like a woolly hat for your house. This extra layer of insulation stops the heat from rising and escaping your property through the roof. We are fully qualified and  expert installers of Flat Roof, Room in Roof and Loft Insulation.

Here at RMS Energy Solutions Ltd, we are skilled and approved installers and we deliver transformative energy programmes by working with the Government. Together, we can move towards a greener future.

You can get your insulation up to 100% fully funded through the ECO scheme if you qualify for a Government Grant. One of our fully qualified experts will insulate your property as well as insulate any water tanks, pipes etc. We will also create a ventilation strategy for your house and loft space.

What are the benefits of upgrading your Roof Insulation?

  • Roof Insulation reduces the amount of noise entering your house, especially if it affects the upper floors of your house.
  • Your house will increase in value as your home’s EPC (Energy Performance Ranking) will be improved. This means that your house will be much more energy efficient and the heating bills will be lower.
  • You will be saving money on your heating bills as well as saving the planet.
  • You could save up to £250 annually just by installing roof insulation.
  • A detached home could save just over 1 tonne of carbon dioxide each year just by installing loft insulation.

How can I tell if I need my Roof Insulating?

  • If your EPC is low or you’ve noticed that you’re losing a lot of heat from your property, you may need to get your roof insulated or the current insulation upgraded.
  • If your loft had been previously installed incorrectly, it can cause dampness and condensation. This creates mould and dampness which can affect your respiratory health.
  • If your insulation is thinner than 270mm which is the recommended thickness, you will need to have your loft insulation upgraded.
  • You could pull up one of the boards to inspect what’s underneath. Just be wary that there could be electrical cables or pipes under the boards. Once you have access to the insulation you can check it’s thickness. You can also check to see if it’s being squashed by any boarding. There should be a gap to allow for airflow above the insulation. Without this gap, you could experience a build-up of condensation and the problems that come with that.
  • If you’re unsure about your Roof Insulation then you could ask a professional. Here at RMS Energy Solutions Ltd, we carry out free energy assessment surveys before we complete any of our jobs.

If the insulation has been squished down by installation that has been installed incorrectly, air stops flowing between the floor and insulation. This creates multiple issues such as:

  • The insulation will lose its thermal efficiency
  • It causes strain on the ceiling
  • Water vapour produced in the home rises until it hits the surface of the underside of the loft flooring. This can cause condensation to form inside the insulation which starts to seep down and create dampness which affects the ceilings.
