External Wall Insulation

CLICK HERE TO CHECK YOUR ELIGIBILITY!

Did you know that most homes lose around 25% of the heat through their walls?

What is External Wall Insulation?

External Wall Insulation is where a layer of insulation is fixed to an existing wall on the outside of a property. This layer will be finished either with a coat of render or with an alternative cladding to protect it from the elements. This method is often required for insulating walls on solid wall properties where there’s no option for Cavity Wall Insulation.

Around 35% of heat can be lost through the walls of a property so here at RMS Energy Solutions Ltd, we understand the importance of insulating the walls in order to reduce energy wastage in your property. Your insulation comes with a 25 year warranty and you can get your insulation up to 100% fully funded through the ECO scheme if you qualify for a Government Grant.

What are the benefits of upgrading your External Wall Insulation?

  • External wall insulation is a great way to protect against penetrating damp, creating a new weatherproof layer on the outside of the building, and slowing the movement of heat through the walls.
  • EWI helps to prevent condensation because it traps heat inside rooms so that internal walls are not as cold. When walls are colder they attract water in the air which is how condensation appears.
  • Your energy bills and heat loss will be reduced
  • EWI does not disrupt the house while being installed
  • It improves not only weatherproofing, but sound resistance too
  • It increases the life of the wall
  • As well as increasing the life of your walls, EWI will also weather proof and sound proof your building too. You can also chose from many different colours of our self cleaning silicon render finishes.

The process of upgrading your External Wall Insulation

  • Before the insulation is installed, the installers will check if the existing render or brickwork is strong enough to support the insulation.
  • Windows on the property will be protected and covered to prevent them from being damaged during the installation.
  • Temporary downpipes must also be installed to prevent water from running down the side of the building, and any waste pipes or soil pipes should either be removed or extended away from the walls – this would allow the building to function as normal during the installation process.
  • The insulation boards are then applied as a layer of adhesive material is applied to the back and the are stuck on in a staggered pattern. Once they have been applied, the edges are filed off if necessary to ensure that the surface is completely flat. Pins are also screwed in to secure the boards.
  • The final coat of render is then applied which is the layer of material that will be visible on the outside of the building. If any of the original pipework was removed while the installation was taking place, it is now reinstalled.
